The shadow of a semi truck

At our monday Bible study we were talking about abiding in the vine (John 15). By way of application I mentioned that as a group we should pick some morning to do our quiet times together. The group was ok with that idea and decided thursdays would be the best day. So on thursdays the girls are going to meet in one of the buildings for a period of time either before or after their classes and spend time with Jesus while others are as well.

This thursday was so good. We had around 6 girls show up. Each of the girls picked a different place in the lobby and sat down reading her Bible. It was a joy to see them all abiding in Christ at the same time! Reminded me of summer camp ;)

Afterwards my co-leader came up and shared some of what she was learning. She had been meditating on Psalm 23 and reading a book by Max Lucado over that Psalm. Verse 4 was the verse of the chapter.

Psalm 23:4 "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me;"

Max was writing in the book of dealing with loss of loved ones. He told the story of riding in the car with his children after the death of his wife, their mother. They were all devastated together and Max had no comfort to give to his kids. Then a semi passed on the side of them and the shadow of the semi passed over them.

He asked his kids, "What is worse: being hit by a semi or the shadow of a semi?" His kids replied quickly, "The shadow." Then Max began to tell them of how 2,000 years ago the perfect son of God was hit by a semi called death so that we would only have to pass through the shadow of it.

I was blown away by this illustration! Jesus did such a great work through His death on the cross! Hallelujah! Sin, Death, and Hell have lost their sting!
